Spring is just around the corner and Evergreen is getting "seedy" on Sunday, March 17th!
Seedy Sunday is a busy, one-day event that brings together scientists, agronomists, plant breeders and community seed savers. In addition to the annual ‘Seed Exchange’, this day will feature a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Market, plus a series of workshops and a guest keynote speaker.
Seedy Sunday volunteers will help ensure that all activities and events run smoothly and safely throughout the day. We're looking to recruit volunteers for the following roles:
Is this you? Are you ready to take on some of the on-the-ground, day-of responsibility for the success of Seedy Sunday?
By helping at this event you will be helping to create a greener and more flourishing Toronto!
What you bring:
When & where:
How to get here: Evergreen runs a free shuttle bus from Broadview Subway station with early-morning trips for staff and volunteers on Sunday mornings. Alternately, the 28A Bayview South bus runs 7 days a week from Davisville subway station. There is limited paid parking on-site, but note that all guests, staff, vendors and volunteers must pay for parking. (Proceeds raised from parking help Evergreen deliver accessible and inclusive educational programs.) For more information please click here!
How we’ll support you: Volunteers are asked to participate in a short group orientation/training session on March 12th from 6pm-8pm. All volunteers will receive an Evergreen orientation package. Seedy Sunday volunteers will also receive support on the day of the event.
Perks: You will contribute to an international seed swapping movement that promotes environmental awareness and agricultural biodiversity. When not volunteering, check out the vendor booths, sit in on a workshop, pick up some worms from our Worm Wrangler team, expand your knowledge of seeds/seed exchanges and meet a bunch of fellow seed enthusiasts. Volunteers can also find snacks at Volunteer Central to keep them fueled throughout the day.
Good to know: Some roles could involve long periods of standing. This will be a busy event that typically involves a lot of public engagement. Programming happens rain, sun or snow. Although most activities are indoors, some may take place outdoors - please dress appropriately. Closed-toed shoes are preferred.
