Position: Urban Summer Day Camp Volunteer
Organization: the p.i.n.e. project
Location: Downtown Toronto, Ontario

Start date: Monday 25 June 2018
Duration: One week minimum.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, with additional hours as required.

About the p.i.n.e. project:

The p.i.n.e. project is a registered charity created to celebrate the wonders of the natural world in the urban jungle. Our mission is to inspire healthy, lifelong connections between people and nature through outdoor-based learning and play. During the summer months, the p.i.n.e. project runs highly sought-after day camps at two locations in Toronto, and an overnight camp in Haliburton. During the School Year (Sep – Jun), we run programs for youth, adults, and families in the Toronto area. Please visit our website for more information at

Start Date: One week minimum, Monday - Friday 8am – 4pm during weeks:

  • July 3- 6,
  • July 9 -13,
  • July 16 -20,
  • July 23-27
  • July 30 - August 3,
  • August 7-10,
  • August 13-17,
  • August 20-24

*Must be available to attend Training - June 25-29*

Why Volunteer?

Volunteers at p.i.n.e. earn valuable experience in our unique mentoring approach, develop their wilderness skills and proficiency, and gain opportunities to learn new in-depth naturalist skills from our experienced staff. Our staff are a community of mentors and avid learners. If you’re looking to learn new skills and knowledge about nature, education and working with youth, there is no better place!


  • assist in providing positive learning and recreational experiences for children and youth ages 0-13 and their parents.

  • assist in the supervision of educational and recreational activities.

  • assist p.i.n.e. instructors with program set-up and delivery.

  • be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • be available for at least one program session for the full 5 days, including 30 min of preparation/organization time at the beginning of each program and the end of each program.


Volunteers must:

  • be enthusiastic, outgoing, and flexible

  • have experience working with children

  • be able and willing to work as part of a team

  • have good communication, time management, and organizational skills

  • identify with our mission statement and core values

  • have a desire to further their own naturalist/primitive skills, mentoring techniques, and/or nature connection through professional development opportunities with p.i.n.e. staff members.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or interest in the following areas:

  • outdoor and environmental education

  • naturalist knowledge

  • survival/wilderness skills

  • working in camp settings

  • experience with p.i.n.e. or affiliate organizations around North America
