VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Position: Killer Whale and Coastal Carnivore Volunteer Educator
Organization: Ripple Coast Society
Location: Lower Mainland / Greater Vancouver BC

Be a part of an initiative to help save the iconic species of coastal British Columbia and gain valuable environmental and education experience at the same time!

Ripple Coast will be launching a series of interactive school workshops around the topics of Killer Whales and Coastal carnivores (wolves, bears, and cougars) for schools in the upcoming season. Part of the proceeds from the by-donation workshops will be donated to the Raincoast Conservation Foundation to help permanently protect coastal carnivores in the Great Bear Rainforest.

We are seeking volunteer educators to help coordinate and deliver programs. Full training will be provided on how to deliver programs. Volunteers will be responsible for coordinating and setting up contacts with schools to deliver the programs. This is an excellent project to be involved with as you get to develop your project management, networking, coordinating, and education/teaching skills. You will also learn a great deal of information about killer whales, the Great Bear Rainforest, coastal carnivores, local conservation issues and how to address them. You also have the flexibility to work close to home by connecting with schools close to your area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Network and connect with nearby schools
  • Coordinate dates, times and schedule workshops
  • Deliver curriculum-based hands-on education programs in schools
  • Communicate effectively with school contacts or teachers

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and problem-solve
  • Organized and resourceful with a demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize projects
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enjoy working indoors or outdoors, rain or shine
  • Excellent group management skills and ability to handle a group independently
