Who we are:

Ecosource is an innovative Ontario-based organization that inspires the community to become more environmentally responsible through creative public education. Our work began in Mississauga in 1979 and has expanded throughout the Region of Peel and beyond to promote waste reduction, urban agriculture, sustainability education, nature connection, and youth leadership. We are committed to engaging all members of our community in environmental education and actively work to provide inclusive programs that reflect the diversity of our community.

The position:

We are seeking two new Board Members with a commitment to the environment and those who share Ecosource’s vision of personal responsibility for the environment. Candidates with the following will be given preference:

  • Experience in Human Resources management
  • Experience in Fundraising
  • Mississauga residents

Responsibilities:

As a valued Member of the Board of Directors, you will:

  • Provide leadership by providing oversight in line with the values of Ecosource, and ensure that these are reflected in programs, services, and their delivery.
  • Along with the Board, review the ED's performance in achieving strategic goals.
  • Support the implementation of Ecosource’s anti-racism/anti-oppression action plan and contribute to the ongoing identification of actions to promote equity and inclusion within the organization and our work in the community.
  • Be involved in planning, prioritizing, and goal setting, to respond creatively to the ongoing challenges of meeting the increased needs of a growing community.
  • Ensure that standards are maintained by good governance and fiscal responsibility.
  • Be an advocate on behalf of Ecosource within our community at events; by speaking to politicians, funders, community audiences, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight on HR best practices to the Board to meet Ecosource’s short and long-term HR objectives.
  • Commit to developing fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relations, organizing, and promoting special events, and/or approaching individuals, businesses, schools, and service clubs for financial and in-kind support.

Requirements:

  • Interest, passion and/or sufficient knowledge and experience in environmental and sustainability issues, especially locally in Mississauga and the Region of Peel.
  • Awareness of anti-racism/anti-oppression education and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, team-management and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of the following competencies:
    • Leadership, Integrity, Reliability, Critical Thinking, Effective Communication Skills, Strategic Planning and Professionalism.

The time commitment for this role is a minimum 2-year term. It encompasses a minimum of 4-5 hours/month, including preparation for and attendance of 10 board meetings/year, with an annual half-day strategic planning session (conducted over the weekend). In addition, willingness to act on project-based committees is expected (time commitment to be determined by project).
