WINNIPEG JOBS

Position: Outreach and Engagement Officer
Organization:
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – Manitoba Chapter
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

We are seeking an energetic and inspiring Outreach and Engagement Officer to join our growing team.

Are you passionate about conservation and connecting people to nature? Do you want to help protect our land, water and wildlife? Join the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society in our fight to Keep Manitoba Wild.

CPAWS Manitoba has been instrumental in establishing 22 parks and protected areas in our province. At nearly 40,000 square kilometers, that’s an area 1.6 times the size of Lake Winnipeg. With your help, we hope to protect half of Manitoba’s wild spaces.

This is a full-time term position which may become permanent. The starting salary will be the equivalent of $45,000 to $50,000 a year.

Responsibilities

  • Your primary responsibility will be to lead all aspects of a wilderness engagement trip within the Seal River Watershed that will connect youth from five Indigenous communities to their natural spaces. You will raise awareness amongst the youth about the importance of conserving the Seal River Watershed, and plan workshops that teach youth valuable environmental monitoring techniques and engage them in traditional practices.
  • You will also support the youths’ participation in a conference in Ottawa and teach them the benefits of meaningful community service by empowering them to complete volunteer projects in their regions.
  • You will be in charge of completing quarterly reports and financial summaries to submit to the federal government.
  • Additional duties will focus on engaging the general public in conservation through direct outreach. You will play a lead role in planning events such as nature hikes and managing the efforts of interns and volunteers.
  • You will show the impact of our engagement efforts in a variety of ways including writing blogs, and shooting photos and videos during events.
  • You will support other team members as needed and report to the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • A university or college degree in marketing, communications, environmental sciences, education or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience working with youth, volunteers and the general public. Experience working with Indigenous youth would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships.
  • Strong presentation skills and experience planning and delivering educational workshops.
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience planning events in a professional setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, organize work independently, fulfill assigned tasks, and meet crucial deadlines.
  • Experience managing a grant budget would be considered an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal English communications skills.
  • The ability to work flexible hours and travel within Canada.
  • The ability to work remotely if required.
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who speak Cree and/or Dene.

CPAWS is committed to Employment Equity and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates including Aboriginal and Metis persons, women, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, individuals of diverse gender and sexual orientation and all groups protected by the Human Rights Code.
