Soaring Eagle Nature School is seeking a passionate, innovative Educator (Teacher) to lead and inspire our small group of forest learners in a ‘classroom’ setting in North Vancouver. The group of 10-12 students ranges in age from 6-9 years old and meets in a ‘classroom’ one day per week from 9:30-3pm as part of the 3 day Forest Learners Program. The ‘classroom’ day takes place in a nature house with tables, chairs and movable walls, large windows with plenty of natural light and nature trails at your doorstep. The classroom days led by the Educator combine indoor project-based learning with outdoor exploration. The additional 2 days of the program are spent completely in the forest with two Nature Mentors.
The Educator is responsible for designing, planning and leading the Tuesday classroom portion of the program with the assistance of a Forest Mentor who will also be present on that day. Duties are primarily centered around the one day of classroom teaching and include design, prep, delivery, communication with parents and reporting.
If you have creative ideas, are passionate about designing and delivering education experiences that push the boundaries of what’s possible and care about the natural world and our young people’s connection to it, we want you!
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Soaring Eagle Nature School
Soaring Eagle Nature School (SENS) offers unique nature-based programs to youth, teens and adults in the Lower Mainland/Vancouver area. Our mission at Soaring Eagle Nature School is to empower people to discover and share their gifts through meaningful connections with the natural world. We honour the natural cycles within people and use their own excitement and curiosity to guide their learning and their connections to themselves, the earth and other people.
The Forest Learners Program is a three-day nature-based program that brings in elements of BC core curriculum and academics. The Forest Learners Program was borne from a desire to merge the core nature programming that Soaring Eagle offers with the educational requirements of school aged children for an alternative, inspiring schooling experience. The one day classroom portion of the program is a compliment to the two full days in the forest. The program as a whole focuses on hands-on, passion-based and project-based learning in a setting that offers secure, genuine, caring attachment between learner and mentor. For this reason the class size is small (10-12 kids) with a high adult to child ratio (1:6).
