The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) was founded in 1905 and today represents urban municipalities including cities, towns, villages, summer villages and specialized municipalities and more than 85% of Albertans. It is a dynamic and evolving association, advocating the interests of members to the provincial and federal orders of government and other stakeholders.
AUMA provides leadership in advocating local government interests to the Provincial Government and other organizations, and provides services that address the needs of its membership. To contribute to achieving those objectives, staff demonstrate professional, positive attitudes in their interactions with government officials, members, customers, and Board and Committee members.
The AUMA attracts and retains competent, effective and dedicated employees and assists employees in developing and refining the skills and competence required to achieve the objectives of AUMA. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project Coordinator (Municipal Climate Change Action Centre)
Reporting to a Program Lead in the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC), the Project Coordinator supports a Program Lead to ensure that the evaluation, implementation and verification of MCCAC climate change mitigation and energy efficiency projects are successfully executed.
The MCCAC was established in 2009 and operates as a partnership between the Alberta Climate Change Office, Alberta Municipal Affairs, Energy Efficiency Alberta, Rural Municipalities Alberta (RMA) and the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) to help municipalities take action on climate change. As trustee of the grant, AUMA serves as the employer of the MCCAC.
On behalf of funding partners, the MCCAC administers a suite of climate change mitigation programs. MCCAC provides participants with technical assistance and grant funding to help communities across Alberta reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
In March 2018, the MCCAC was provided with $54 million in funding from the Government of Alberta's Climate Leadership Plan which will be used to expand and develop programs that advance the development of community renewable energy generation, enhance energy efficiency within municipal and community buildings, promote the installation of solar PV on schools, and enable the greening of municipal fleet assets.
Note: This is a term position with funding extending to June, 2023
