Position: Project and Operations Coordinator

The Toronto Environmental Alliance is hiring a Project and Operations Coordinator.

Who We Are:

TEA was founded in 1988. Our mandate is to promote a greener Toronto for all. We work with concerned individuals and grassroots organizations, professionals and workers, as well as elected officials, encouraging the participation of local people on local issues. TEA envisions Toronto as a green, healthy and equitable city with economic activity that sustains our environment.

TEA is recognized locally and nationally for our municipal work on climate change, waste reduction, toxics reduction, transit, Greenbelt protection, energy efficiency and green power -- issues we believe are critical to the health and well-being of Toronto residents. Our collaborations with the community (eg. community groups, local labour groups, small businesses, anti-poverty groups) are cherished and key to our past and future successes.

We are a not-for-profit organization that is not a charity. This ensures there are no legal restrictions to our advocacy work faced by charities subject to federal tax laws. We are fiercely non-partisan and work closely with any decision-maker who wants to build a greener city for all.

The Position:

TEA is looking for a Project and Operations Coordinator to start immediately (January 2018). The Coordinator will assist with outreach and administrative duties that are critical to the success of various TEA projects that tackle climate change, prevent pollution and promote zero waste solutions. The successful candidate will work directly with the Campaigns Team and support operations and logistics on various projects. In particular, the candidate will coordinate various activities for TEA’s Zero Waste High Rise initiative, which focuses on assisting high rise buildings across the city to reduce waste and achieve greenhouse gas reductions.

The job requires daytime (Monday to Friday) as well as some evening and weekend work. The job also demands the ability to travel across the City of Toronto by transit (and sometimes by car) to work off-site at community locations. TEA provides compensation for work-related travel costs.


Duties include:

  • Resident engagement through door canvassing and tabling in multi-residential buildings

  • Assisting with recruitment, training and supervision of project volunteers

  • Coordinating event details and logistics for visits to high rise buildings and waste audits

  • Booking and organizing meetings and networking events

  • Using online tools for setting up and monitoring RSVPs for meetings

  • Monitoring phones and email accounts

  • Assisting in database and website management

  • Compiling/formatting/editing data and reports

  • Providing other project support (eg. research)


  • Personable and courteous - even in challenging situations

  • Comfortable with public speaking

  • Attention to detail

  • Good judgement

  • Ability to work independently and as part of team

  • Willingness to learn and actively participate in trainings and tutorials related to your work

  • Leadership or mentoring skills (e.g. comfortable training and supervising volunteers and summer students)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English; additional languages an asset

  • Microsoft Excel skills

  • Anti-oppression and/or anti-racist training are an asset

  • Basic technical troubleshooting skills (computers, software, equipment)


  • Post-secondary education or equivalent

  • Administrative experience including email, phone, typing, and event logistics

  • Outreach experience such as public speaking, door knocking, tabling at events, cold calling

  • Project management experience

  • General research experience (school or work-related)

  • Experience working in a non-profit setting, especially with environmental and/or social justice organizations, is a strong asset

  • Experience in volunteer management is a strong asset

  • Experience with any CRM software, especially NationBuilder, is an asset (training will be provided)

Terms of Employment:

This is a full time position (37.5 hours per week) for 6 months starting immediately. The pay is $19.30/hour for 37.5 hours per week. The contract might be renewed for another 6 to 12 months.
