Who We Are
The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga is a non-profit retreat centre on Salt Spring Island, BC. Our main enterprises are hosting retreats and classes on yoga, meditation, and self-development, as well as operating a small-scale organic farm. Most of our staff live on site as part of an intentional community that is focused on the attainment of peace through spiritual practice (sadhana), supportive community (satsang), and selfless service (karma yoga).
The Operations Coordinator provides support in response to needs arising from events and programs taking place at the centre. This role works collaboratively with the Programs, Human Resource, Kitchen, Housekeeping, Maintenance and other staff members to ensure smooth running of our programs. The Operations Coordinator is involved at the planning stage of events and works closely with the Programs Coordinator to ensure logistics and arrangements for events are properly set up before and taken down after programs and events. This position also works closely with the Human Resource Coordinator to ensure our 10-week Residential Karma Yoga Program runs smoothly. This role also manages a roster of off-land and ad-hoc volunteers who help out during our busy season, and also handles special projects as required.
The position requires a commitment of 28 hours per week of work, including a few hours of weekly communal cleanup shifts. During the first 10 weeks of your time here, we also ask for 7 hours per week of participation in community activities and meetings, as well as classes on yoga theory and practice. This helps new staff to connect to the aims of the Centre and the community in a deeper way. (Some of this may not be necessary for those who’ve already spent time at the Centre) Please see below for further details about the job.

However, if you’re open to exploring community life and spiritual practice, all while working hard to be of service to others, then there’s a good chance you’ll have a great time with us.
Yoga and Community
As an added bonus, when you arrive, you’ll take part in the offerings provided in our Residential Karma Yoga Program for the first 10 weeks of your time here. You’ll learn and practice alongside other folks who come to work in our kitchen, maintenance, farm, office, and housekeeping teams. This allows new residents to gain a thorough introduction to the teachings and practices of yoga that inspire SSCY. Participants in the program normally pay $1,155 for the 10-week period, but we include it as part of the coordinator’s compensation. The ten-week program includes:
