Overview: Evergreen is seeking qualified, responsible and dynamic Camp Counsellors to work at Evergreen Adventure Camp in North Vancouver. The camp gives children an opportunity to play outside, develop a relationship with the natural world, and inspire a new generation of environmental stewards. We are seeking accreditation with BCCA in 2019, and anticipate approximately 20 campers per week in our inaugural 2018 year. Camp Counsellors are responsible for the care and safety of a group of up to 10 campers per week, for a total of 9 weeks of programming from July 3rd – August 31st, 2018.

Successful candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment, full-time post-secondary students in the previous academic year and intending to return to school in fall 2018, and legally entitled to work in Canada. This opportunity is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Youth Summer Work Experience Program.


  • Creatively guide a group of 8-10 campers, ages 8-12, in nature-based programming such as hiking, biking, fire building, wild foraging, orienteering songs, and storytelling.
  • Participate in pre-camp training in June, read and understand the Staff Handbook
  • Communicate all rules and regulations to program participants
  • Support and mentor volunteer Assistant Camp Counsellors
  • Help monitor program participants during lunch, snack and extended care programs
  • Participate in end of day reflections, provide feedback and support to the rest of the camp team
  • Document incidents and accidents and report to Director/Manager
  • Monitor and maintain program spaces and materials
  • Act as a positive role model and leader

  • Proactivity/Enthusiasm/Persistence. Act without being told what to do. Passionate and excited over work. Can do attitude. Tenacious and goes the distance to get tasks done.


Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director
  • Supervises: Volunteers


  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a camp setting
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
  • Interest and experience in supporting the growth of nature connection among youth
  • Must be able to provide own transportation or transit to camp location at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve in North Vancouver

Working conditions:

  • Working outdoors in inclement weather
  • Standing for extended periods of time

Hours of Work:

  • Available between the hours of 8:00am-6:00 pm Monday-Friday
  • Full time 9 weeks, July 3 - August 31
  • Mandatory paid staff training from June 24-27
