What you’ll do:

We are looking for an Operations Manager to help lead our energetic and outdoor-loving team! This position works directly with the owner to ensure that the on the ground day-to-day general operations and customer service run smoothly, from ensuring that equipment is up to snuff, to putting smiles on customers’ faces. The Operations Manager will take ownership over all rental and lesson programming, directly managing the Rental Associate Supervisors as well as being a resource to the broader staff. They will also work closely with the Summer Camp Supervisor to support all youth camp programming. Our goal as a team is to ensure that each customer embarking on a windsurfing, skimboarding or stand-up paddling adventure has the most fun and safe experience before, on, and off the water.

This is an in-person full-time, seasonal position running from April to October 2021 (exact start/end dates flexible), based in Vancouver. While seasonal, there is a possibility for extension to part-time employment during the off-season (October-March).

Some examples of the daily tasks of the Operations Manager would include:

  • Lead the Rentals team in delivering exceptional customer service and coordinating equipment rentals and lesson facilitation in a safe, timely, professional and friendly manner. This may include sizing for and preparing equipment, providing assistance over the phone or in person, processing and verifying registrations/ payments using a cloud-based booking system or POS system
  • Maintain an accurate understanding of the flow of rental customers and their needs, assisted by booking & resource management system
  • Scheduling team members and managing schedule change requests
  • Complete or teach and support team to prepare, maintain and repair equipment and designated storage areas
  • Complete inventory tracking and ordering as needed
  • Direct and support team to organize and maintain cleanliness of work areas
  • Support the overarching needs of lessons, camp programs and other staff on water and land through communication between these teams and with respective supervisors
  • Continuously educate on and uphold COVID-19 protocols to both team members and guests
  • Carry out various administrative tasks related to overarching operations, ex. completing reports, answering emails, taking calls, connecting with community partners

You’re a good fit if you:

  • Love being outside and active, especially on the water
  • Are proficient in one or more of our watersports (the more, the better)
  • Know how to create memorable customer experience
  • Enjoy being involved in many aspects of a business
  • Are seeking a role to grow your leadership and mentorship skills
  • Have experience using organizational tools like Gmail, Google Drive, Asana

What we need:

  • Education and/or experience in the outdoor recreation and tourism industry
  • Experience leading and managing a team of 5+ people in a recreation context
  • Passion for and experience teaching windsurfing, skimboarding and SUP
  • Experience operating point-of-sales machines, using cloud-based booking software
  • Ability to manage and repair equipment associated with the our watersports, or similar
  • Available for a Tuesday-Saturday workweek, 10am-6pm
  • Paddle Canada SUP Certification (bonus!)
  • Pleasure Craft Operating Card (PCOC) or willingness to get it
  • Valid First Aid Training
  • Valid Criminal Record Check or willingness to get one
