Position: Farm Staff – Field/Greenhouse Grower

The Brew Creek Centre is a farm to table resort located in one of the most pristinely beautiful areas in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. This area is a teasure and a habitat we strive to maintain by taking responsible steps in minimizing our ecological footprint. It is important to us that our services and principles are aligned, from our day-to-day simple practices to how our centre operates as a whole.

Secluded by deep forest, yet just over one hour drive away from downtown Vancouver and 20 minutes south of Whistler, our 12 acre property provides a place of reflection and dialogue amongst guests. Sheltered by the coastal range, and nourished by waterfalls, ponds and Brew Creek, it is the ideal setting for group retreats, workshops, conferences, business gatherings or weddings and other celebrations.

Our venue has a farm to table style restaraunt and we are focused and commited to sustainable practices that include growing our own organic food, composting our waste, cellaring food over the winter, and reducing our energy consumption, carbon footprint and plastic consumption.

About the Farm:

Our onsite 2 acre bluff top Farm Garden houses an outdoor terraced cornicopia of veggies and a year round 42ft Geodesic Growing Dome along with a 47X13 Poly Hoop House. We pride ourselves on openly welcoming guests to tour the farm at their lesuirely pace, and often get requests for special group tours

We are growing again and looking for the right candidate for this unique position! We are seeking motivated individuals to join our farm team, those who are invested in organic agriculture and are interested in pursuing farming as a career.

Description:

This position is responsible for supporting the general operation and maintenance of the farm in a fast-paced environment including planting, watering, harvesting, packing and delivering to the kitchen. You will be responsible for ensuring that our produce is harvested, sorted and packed to the extremely high quality standards that our chefs expect.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of growing including soil preparation, seeding, watering, harvesting, packaging and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Active participation in weekly planting, pruning, watering, weeding and harvesting is a key component of this position
  • Liasing between departments to ensure adaquete amounts of produce is ordered and delivered in a timely matter
  • Oversee farm duties

General Skills and Qualifications:

  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Interest in organic agriculture and passionate about sustainable and local food systems
  • Self starter with a strong initiative and ability to take direction when required
  • At least 6 months of farming experience, organic preferred
  • Experience with crop rotation, pest management, soil health and record keeping in a farm environment
  • Ability to work quickly, independently while paying attention to small details. Must have good time management skills
  • Exhibits reliability and commitment to our organization
  • Must be able to perform physcial labour on a daily basis
  • Ability to perform in all weather conditions, physically capable of manual labour, bend for extended periods of time and work alone
  • Posses a valid drivers license or has access to reliable transportation. Own transportation recommended
  • Ability to think broadly and problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self directed: Able to work at a high standard with minimal supervision
  • Willing to work flexible hours during peak season, with one weekend day required

Wages:

Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidates experience.
