Position: RAINscapeTO Project Manager
Type: full-time April to Oct. 2018

RAINScapeTO is part of a growing movement to re-pattern the design of urban green spaces. We create water-friendly gardens that help prevent flooding and water pollution. We offer installation of pollinator, edible, rain and forest gardens, rain water harvesting systems, bioswales, and more while creating a beautiful amenity for local food production, heritage seeds, and the use of native plants as vital additions to the urban landscape to preserve habitat and clean water. Workshops and community projects promote neighbourhood action for green infrastructure and low impact gardening practices.

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in the environment, strong relevant skills in key areas, and enjoys working in a community-based organisation. We will provide additional training and practical experience in a new and expanding part of the landscape industry.

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the initiative to ensure the growth of the project towards the establishment of a successful social enterprise. As such, we aim to provide training and employment opportunities for members of the Indigenous community that foster a connection to the land and ways to help care for it. The successful candidate will uphold the organisation’s commitment to supporting the path towards Reconciliation.

Expected Outcomes


Create a respectful, supportive, learning culture leading to stable employment, and positive, impactful client and community relations.


Generate a combined gross income of at least $100,000 from community and residential projects.


Achieve a measurable environmental impact based on the total area of green infrastructure improvements completed; and create a model to move the wider industry towards water and earth friendly landscaping.

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing, Sales and Customer Relations

  • Manage all aspects of customer relations:
    • acquire new clients and support all clients
    • respond to queries in professional and timely manner via email, phone, and in person
    • arrange and schedule client site visits and ongoing work
    • provide consultation and estimates, and follow up with clients through stages of service
    • ensure quality of work and customer satisfaction
  • coordinate workshops, community forums, events and presentations
  • maintain communications with the public through social media, website updates, and events
  • liaise with community groups, neighbourhood, industry and business associations to create greater awareness of the initiative, promote blue-green infrastructure solutions and garner support for the project


  • coordinate staff training (i.e. Master Rain Gardeners; Health & Safety, etc.)
  • support ongoing professional development of staff
  • supervise, coordinate and schedule assignments
  • identify and address performance issues, providing support as per TGC personnel policies framework
  • foster engagement and feedback through regular team meetings
  • research potential additional funding sources and assist with proposal writing


  • Design, install, and maintain residential and community rain garden landscaping projects
  • Assess site for rain garden potential and suggest eco-friendly solutions for basic urban gardening challenges
  • schedule and oversee installations
  • liaise with engineers, designers, and/or City to make arrangements for permits, etc.


  • invoice clients promptly and manage collections and deposits of payments (primarily online)
  • ensure all expenses are paid in a timely manner
  • complete and submit timesheets for biweekly payroll
  • provide monthly sales and expense updates
  • prepare funder and management reports as required
  • collect statistical & anecdotal data to assess project successes and barriers
  • other duties as required

Desired Qualifications include:

  • Landscape architecture, design, engineering or other related training /certification such as fusion landscaping with ability to produce concept drawings
  • strong understanding of LID/green infrastructure design and installation/ construction
  • an interest in ecological gardening and at least 2 years of experience in residential, commercial or community organic/ ecological gardening/ landscaping
  • knowledge of plant identification (horticultural varieties, native plants, trees, shrubs, common weeds)
  • excellent team leader, able to motivate, co-ordinate and manage an efficient, positive crew
  • outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency;
  • a professional, responsive and courteous manner with diverse members of the public, clients, and staff
  • available to work flexible hours with peak intensities from spring to fall
  • ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and work well independently with excellent follow through
  • responsible, detail-oriented, organized, reliable, punctual, and flexible
  • experience in liaising with community groups, neighbourhood and business associations
  • knowledge of community-based social marketing to support implementation of solutions
  • proven capacity to implement successful sales and marketing techniques
  • project management training and experience organizing community events and projects
  • demonstrated understanding of community engagement
  • awareness and understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation recommendations
  • drivers license required. Access to own vehicle is an asset.

This position is full-time from April 2018 to October 2018 and may lead to a permanent opportunity. We are offering a base salary of $20,000, and a profit sharing plan that may provide additional funds based on the success of the project.
