Force of Nature is a non-profit organization working to accelerate the Lower Mainland’s transition to a just and equitable post-carbon future. We are seeking a passionate and experienced fundraising professional to raise funds for Mission: Transition! - an innovative new engagement organizing campaign that integrates climate solutions advocacy, municipal elections organizing and sustainable development projects to help communities transition away from fossil fuels and toward a post-carbon future.

Job Description: Reporting to the Director, the Development Director is responsible for developing, leading and implementing the organization’s revenue strategy. Job duties include:

  • Work with the Director to refine the existing fundraising strategy and create a detailed revenue plan for 2018 with explicit goals and metrics.

  • Identify small, mid range, major, and institutional donor prospects and develop a plan and timeline for how and when they will be approached.

  • Effectively raise funds from individual and institutional donors. Direct fundraising from major donors will be a central focus of this work, particularly in the first year.

  • Manage, administrate and develop the small donor and monthly giving program.

  • Steward donor relations and manage donor appreciation

  • Assist with the creation of web content, brochures, fundraising letters and other support materials, as required

  • Identify and apply for grants, as required

  • Oversee administration of all fundraising activities, including grant reporting and managing donor data in Force of Nature database.

Required Skills:

  • Proven competency in the field of direct fundraising. Minimum two years fundraising experience required (or combination of fundraising, sales, and / or other equivalent experience) Recruiting from major and mid range donors will be a major component of this work, particularly in the first year.

  • Exceptional organizational and data management skills. The candidate must be able to efficiently track, report on and manage hundreds of donors in our database with minimal supervision or oversight. .

  • General understanding of political issues especially as they relate to climate change. A sincere desire to affect progressive change and commitment to the Force of Nature mission and vision are required. Ability to develop your understanding of complex concepts and adapt to changing circumstances on an ongoing basis. Experience with community organizing and electoral campaigning is an asset.

  • Self direction, creativity, and the ability to develop and execute outcome-oriented plans with explicit goals, targets and metrics. Ability to thrive in a data-driven culture: willingness to experiment, challenge yourself, and learn from failure in order to achieve explicit outcomes.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, ability to work as part of a team, strong verbal communication skills and the ability to mentor and train others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
