Position Title: Educational Program Coordinator (part time)
Reports to:
Network Coordinator
Organization: Cedar Cottage Food Network
Location: Vancouver, BC

Term of Contract: April 2018 - November 2018 (31 weeks)

Hourly Wage: $20/hr

Hours: 10rs/week, Work is flexible, but must be available to work some weekends

Organizational Mandate:

The Cedar Cottage Food Network Society (CCFN) is an independent, non-profit organization working toward more sustainable and just food systems at the neighbourhood level. We create space for Kensington-Cedar Cottage residents to take part in different levels of food systems by providing programming, tools, and opportunities for community connections.

Description of Position:

The Cedar Cottage Food Market offers a number of educational programs including community kitchens, food and garden skills workshops, a seed savers meet-up group and our Intergenerational gardening project for seniors and youth. The Educational Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of our educational programs as well as support in various events and programs such as harvest festivals, and special events as needed.

Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a candidate with strong project coordination skills and who thrives in dynamic leadership role. They are able to inspire and enthuse people about food justice and have related teaching, program development, and community outreach experience. They are enthusiastic, highly organized, and attentive to detail so they can manage a multi-faceted workload while building and maintaining professional relationships.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading CCFN Project programming and coordination efforts

  • Creating a schedule of workshops for our various programs

  • Coordinating logistics and scheduling workshops with partner organizations, facilitators, and volunteers

  • Host our Seed Savers meet-up groups, lead workshops and activities around seed saving

  • Maintain our seed library and work to grow and save seeds at our Community Garden

  • Developing and delivering youth training workshops (2-3/season)

  • Coordinating gardening support trips for seniors (2-3 trips per season)

  • Supervise Summer Students


  • Demonstrated success with project coordination and workshop facilitation

  • Gardening and food preparation knowledge and experience

  • Experience with seed saving and seed libraries

  • Experience or training in lesson plan and/or curriculum development

  • Experience working with adults, children and youth from diverse backgrounds

  • Education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience

  • Outreach and promotion of projects with various stakeholders

  • Experience working in a paid/volunteer capacity within the non-profit sector considered favourably


  • Sound understanding of food security/sovereignty principles, the spectrum of food based programs in Vancouver, and barriers to food access

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of systems of oppression and how they increase barriers to accessing food.

  • Independent analytical thinking to optimize programming and results

  • Excellent planning skills and ability to adapt to priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and under guidance

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Drive and social media


  • Knowledge of the Kensington Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood

  • Foodsafe Handling Certificate
