Position: Compost Production Coordinator
Type: full-time contract, Oct 2018 – Sept 2019
Organization: Wastenot Farms
Location: Mono, Ontario (near Orangeville/Hockley Valley)

Wastenot Farms is a regenerative agriculture company collecting food waste from the Greater Toronto Area, recycling this material through worm composting, and retailing our worm manure plant food as an all-natural, non-toxic soil amendment. We are hiring a full time contract employee to work as key operations team member.

Approximately 80% of this position will be on-farm labour supporting compost operations. You will be involved in all aspects of the composting process, from collecting food waste and receiving material on farm, feeding the inputs and monitoring the thermophilic composting process using commercial composting equipment, collecting and logging input and output data, moving material through the production supply chain and preparing product for sale through harvesting, drying, refining, bagging and labeling. You will learn about composting and worm farming techniques including the importance of soil microbiology. You will be moving bins and bags of organic waste, weighing up to 30lbs and shoveling this material from one location to another. Additional farm upkeep activities may include cutting grass, painting fences and buildings and use of the tractor. Extended periods of outdoor physical labour will be expected of you, working with your hands in compost and soil, through all types of weather and will include daily shoveling, raking, lifting and bagging. Most of the time you will be working on your own, at other times you will work as part of a small team.

As we are a small startup company, you will have an opportunity to participate in many different aspects of the business and all employees must be willing to assist with sales and marketing activities. Approximately 20% of this position will be an off-farm in a public facing, sales position capacity as a member of the Jocelyn’s Soil Booster sales team. You will promote our worm manure plant food product at market booths, educating consumers on the value of composting, soil health and the importance of carbon sequestration in agricultural soils as a solution to climate change. Other marketing tasks may include maintaining social media accounts, researching potential markets and working with the team to develop new products. Some occasional travel may be required throughout the South-Western Ontario.

This position is for full-time contract work, 35 hrs/week, from October 2018 through Sept 2019 paying $15/hr.
