The Job
The Northeast Region is looking for an organized, energetic, and motivated individual to join the Regional Advisory Unit in Northeast Region's Regional Resources Section.

Combine your knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and natural resource management with your excellent interpersonal skills in this position with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), Regional Operations Division.

The Ministry
The purpose of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is to provide opportunities for resource development and outdoor recreation for the continuous economic and social benefit of the people of Ontario; and to administer, protect, and conserve public lands and waters. The ministry's programs are concerned with the use of the physical resources such as land, water, trees, fish, animals and certain minerals for resource utilization and recreation.

South Porcupine is located within the City of Timmins is located 700 km North of Toronto, and offers a variety of natural, cultural and recreational diversions. What can I expect to do in this role?

  • Provide expert advice, support and coordination on the application of provincial natural resource management policy, regulation and legislation in the context of meeting the Crown's legal obligations with respect to Indigenous communities and organizations within the region
  • Support and/or lead consultation and negotiations with Indigenous communities as it pertains to natural resource management program implementation
  • Coordinate the regional implementation of Ministry programs and initiatives related to natural resource management for Indigenous people
  • Participate in policy development initiatives and project teams
  • Provide advice and analysis on ministry policy and program outcomes associated with Indigenous programs/policies

How do I qualify?

Communication and Relationship Building Skills

  • You can effectively communicate and liaise with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • You can prepare and deliver a variety of deliverables (ex. briefing materials and presentations) tailored to various audiences both internally and externally to government using computer software (ex. word processing, presentation, spreadsheet).
  • You have strong relationship management skills to maintain and foster partnerships to aid in buy-in of Ministry objectives.
  • You can lead collaborative information seeking efforts to ensure sound advice in relation to critical issues.
  • You can effectively facilitate and negotiate to achieve Indigenous engagement in natural resource planning and management.
  • You have highly developed political acuity, tact and discretion to manage issues of sensitive and contentious nature.

Analytical Skills

  • You can interpret policy, regulation and legislation to ensure the Ministry complies with its responsibilities, commitments and legal requirements with respect to Indigenous policy/program direction.
  • You can assess data and information to develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • You can evaluate and communicate the implications of current and proposed natural resource management policies and recommendations.

Technical Expertise

  • You have knowledge and awareness of Indigenous history, culture, treaties and relevant issues, including the intersect of the Crown's legal duty to consult, Indigenous and Treaty rights, inter-governmental relations with natural resource management.
  • You have knowledge of the policies, legislation, trends and issues affecting Indigenous peoples of Ontario.
  • You have knowledge of natural resource management principles and best practices.

Planning and Coordination Skills

  • You can lead strategic planning initiatives by creating work plans and managing financials of assigned projects.

Salary Range: $72,675 - $107,093 per year
