HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT JOBS

Position: General Manager (2 positions – couple or two individuals)
Organization: Blachford Lake Lodge
Location: Blachford Lake, 100k east of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (with accom.)

Reports to: Lodge Owner
Status: Full time, live in position

Blachford Lake Lodge is an upscale Northern fly-in wilderness resort, located 100km east of Yellowknife in Canada’s Northwest Territories. In the heart of the Canadian wilderness, the lodge is comprised of 5 lodge rooms and 5 guest cabins. While at the lodge, guests can enjoy a variety of seasonal activities as well as the best Northern Lights viewing in the world. Winter guest activities include, but are not limited to cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, skating, ice fishing, hockey, handicrafts, wildlife tracks, and other winter activities. In the summer guest activities include, but are not limited to fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, shore lunches, and hiking.

As the General Lodge Manager, it is your job to make sure that every guest has an incredible and memorable stay at Blachford Lake Lodge. You are responsible for meeting the needs of every guest and group that arrives at the lodge, from meet and greet on the lake, to fond farewells at the same site when they leave. You are responsible for overseeing and organizing, as well as assisting in all of the lodge operations, including but not limited to Food & Beverage, Housekeeping, Site Grooming, Office Administration, Capital Projects, Guest Activities and Staff Management.

You will work closely, in partnership with the Systems/Operations Manager to ensure that all daily tasks, site maintenance and guest services are completed to a high standard.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Hospitality Management
    • Demonstrating a high level of professionalism and care for each guest that arrives at the lodge. Ensuring that all lodge services are ready and waiting upon guest arrival, kind meetings and fond farewells for all guests. Taking time to understand all situations from a guest perspective, keeping the lodge up to date with a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Food and Beverage
    • Covering for chefs on days off, chef scheduling, meal planning, anticipating the needs of different guest groups
  • Housekeeping
    • Keeping the interior and exterior of the lodge, cabins and public areas well-maintained as per duties outlined on the checklist, keeping lodge décor up to date and welcoming.
  • General Maintenance and Tasks
    • Keeping track of lodge supplies, performing outdoor and indoor maintenance tasks as needed, capital projects
  • Team Work
    • Ensure that the lodge is properly staffed at all times, training of new staff members, HR with onsite staff, communication with office administration
  • Administration
    • Paperwork for all staff members, guest registration and check out, tracking and administration of projects
  • Commitment to the environment
    • Updating and initiating new sustainable eco practices
  • Risk Management
    • Committing at all times to the safety of all guests and staff at the lodge, first aid responsibilities, limiting all unsafe conditions on site.
  • Guiding
    • Guiding guest activities for 1-36 guests, coordinating activities and handicrafts, ensuring that all guests have proper photography instruction and coordinating the “Aurora Alert” during high aurora seasons.
  • Supply Orders
    • Submit supply orders for food and beverage with the Head Chef, as well as supply order for other site projects.

Qualifications:

  • Wilderness first aid or higher
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • Liquor Serving Certificate
  • Driver’s License (Class 5)
  • Boat/Pleasure Craft License
  • Chainsaw Operators License
  • PAL/Firearms License
  • Fall Protection Hazards Certificate
  • Ice Safety and Rescue Certificate
  • WHIMIS and MSDS Hazardous Waste Certificates
  • Post-Secondary Tourism Management considered an asset
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Previous experience working at a remote wilderness lodge considered an asset
  • Previous experience working/living in Northern Canada considered an asset
  • Previous guiding experience considered an asset
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to speak English fluently
  • Working knowledge of a second language considered an asset
