ECOVILLAGE LIVE/WORK TRADE

Position: Hospitality and Community Living Internship

OUR ECOVILLAGE is an amazing natural handcrafted village based in a 25 acre Sustainable/Permaculture Living Demonstration Site and Education Centre. With a 3 season busy rhythm, lots of visitors and course participants, and a number of events, there is a diverse range of activities in this role. OUR team highly values someone who can work with an exciting and wide range of programs/events/guests and is interested in and able to be in high production/organization mode. We host many volunteers who will assist with this role and we are hoping for pure love flowing through the all the learning and guests/visitors we share life with. An emphasis is placed on designing for efficiency, beauty, zero waste, chemical free and biological systems. This is a community based project, with a possibility of small/beautiful residential space. It is a busy role at times with high production and slow and creative at other points. We are hopeful for someone who very much wishes to become the first face within the receiving of visitors within this incredibly unique space.

Skills needed:

High level of communication skills; verbal and written, familiar with Google docs platform, familiar with Word and Excel, attention to detail online and on the ground when cleaning and organizing rooms and spaces for guests, able to track information from multiple platforms on spreadsheets, comfortable navigating online platforms such as airbnb and checkfront, friendly and welcoming attitude, grounded personality working with diverse guest services, flexible and adaptable within shifting schedules, creative problem solver, team player.

Job Description Overview:

OUR Ecovillage Hospitality and Community Living Coordinator Intern, warmly interacts with incoming guests to ensure they have a smooth experience from booking to departure. The Hospitality Lead is responsible for creating a clean, welcoming environment for guests and new volunteers arriving, ensuring someone is available as a point person to guests on site, and overall helping newcomers feel welcomed and at home here at OUR Ecovillage upon arrival and throughout their stay.

Role details:

  • Tracking who is onsite for accommodations and meals: update spreadsheets

  • Respond quickly to emails relating to accommodations and meals, forwarded from info@ or other sources

  • Handle all bookings, creating and adjusting invoices when needed on checkfront

  • Create new items/ make needed changes to existing items on checkfront

  • Point person for Airbnb – regularly check and respond to messages and keep availability calendar updated, as well as all listings updated with current photos and accurate information.

  • Prepare rooms for guests (for example: right number of towels are set out, room and bathroom is clean) and change sheets and clean rooms after guests depart. Assist with cleaning and organizing of spaces as needed.

  • Help lead preparation and organization of common spaces for events and courses.

  • Decorate and beautify rooms - update the Hospitality items needed google doc so brandy and Elke and others can keep an eye out when they are at thrift stores and around town.

  • Communicate regularly with team lead and/or full Coordinators Team.

  • Communicate regularly with Admin/office team and education team to ensure everyone is accounted for who needs accommodations and meals in the coming weeks

  • Welcome guests when they arrive, asking them to sign the waiver, showing them to their room, and explaining the self-guided tour

  • Lead orientations for new volunteers and guests (share with Volunteer Coordinator)

  • Update Community Calendar with events, comings and goings

  • Make signs for around the site, with instructions, warnings, or helpful info

As part of OUR ECOVILLAGE's committed Internship Training program you will be able to access much of our guest programs and a wide number of OUR courses. We are working to create this as the Internship framework for the Global Ecovillage Network and will be piloting how to build in as many different training components of skills for living/working in a cooperative, collective, community lifestyle. This is a high value learning opportunity and rather than paying for an Internship we have opened this position up for more as win-win. We work together in the village to share tasks and to project manage all the elements of a large demonstration site and intentional community which hosts lots of incredible learning programs (K-12, Universities/Colleges, building industry, regulatory authorities). We aim to be a highly professional that still maintains a creative edge while being as zero waste as possible. This is a 6 month role but this could potentially turn into a longer position if Canadian and depending on your fit in the role/village as we will be shortlisting for a business partner.
