Position: Program Assistant
Organization: Green Roofs for Healthy Cities
Location: Toronto ON (remote but with occasional meetings in our Downtown Toronto office) 
Eligibility: post-secondary grads, age 30 or younger, currently unemployed or underemployed (details/below)

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is a non-profit industry association working to grow the green roof and wall industry throughout North America since 1999. The successful candidate for this entry-level Program Assistant position will work to advance and support GRHC’s many initiatives. GRHC offers a flexible and varied work environment with room for growth and a chance to learn about the green building and infrastructure sector, as well as the many facets of non-profit administration.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with demonstrated knowledge of environmental issues through education and/or experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high levels of productivity in a collaborative remote office environment. The role will be remote in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, with occasional meetings in our Downtown Toronto office and a potential return to in-office work contingent on safety.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Help organize and coordinate workshops, training courses, conferences, symposia, and other events
  • Assist with marketing and communications initiatives, with a focus on increasing outreach, growing our brand, and expanding our network
  • Develop visual materials like flyers, web ads, reports, etc.
  • Help update training course manuals and presentations
  • Assist with fundraising activities, partnership building, and grant writing
  • Conduct secondary research and develop reports and other resources on various subjects related to green roofs and green infrastructure for our stakeholders
  • Coordinate and administer committees and meetings of of volunteer experts who assist with our initiatives


  • Meet the eligibility criteria for the Eco Canada Internship Program (
  • A self-starter who is organized, motivated, and can work independently
  • Ability to multi-task and meet overlapping deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to work collaboratively and coordinate with stakeholders
  • A quick learner who is enthusiastic about expanding their skills and role
  • Demonstrated attention to detail


  • Marketing and/or event management experience
  • Web design experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint, Adobe InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator, Cvent, Squarespace, and Google Docs
