Position: Seasonal Tree Nursery Workers
Organization: The County of Wellington
Location: Wellington County, Ontario (near Guelph, Cambridge, Milton, Orangeville)

The Green Legacy Programme has two locations: the Southern Tree Nursery, which is located on Wellington County Road 34 in the Township of Puslinch, and the Northern Tree Nursery, which is located in the Luther Lake Conservation area east of Damascus. In coordination with the Green Legacy Programme, the Tree Nurseries are responsible for providing to the community 160,000+ seedlings and 10,000 saplings every year.

Reporting to the Tree Nursery Assistant and Community Outreach Coordinator, the Tree Nursery Worker is responsible for assisting with the propagation of the Green Legacy Nursery trees. The daily operation includes: propagation and watering of the trees and maintenance of the nursery equipment. The Tree Nursery Worker works daily with and oversees a large numbers of volunteers, from students to seniors.

The minimum qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma.
  • Minimum one year of experience or equivalent in a related area, preferably working with volunteers and students.
  • Plant propagation experience is considered an asset.
  • Able to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • May need to lift heavy and/or unwieldy objects.
  • Regularly expected to stoop or kneel and bend to pick up objects.
  • Work is outdoors and inside greenhouses, with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • A valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 Class) and access to a reliable vehicle.

This position offers an hourly range of: $22.78 to $26.61 (2020 Non-Union Compensation Grid).

Two positions are available at the Southern location and one position is available at the Northern location, however flexibility to work from either location is required. The Seasonal Tree Nursery Worker must be available between approximately March 9 and June 5, for approximately 35 hours per week. Flexibility to work some Saturdays is also required.
