INTERNSHIP POSITION

Position: Horticultural Therapy Internship recognized by the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association
Organization: The Julien Project
Location: Guelph, Ontario

Practicum position: Part Time 21hrs/week for a total of 1000hrs 
Honorarium: $5,000 (357 paid hours a@$14/ hour. 643 unpaid education hours)

Contract hours:

  • September 2020, pending COVID-19 restrictions, to February 2021 (~500 hrs)
  • and continuing from May–December 2021 (500hrs)

The position offers an excellent opportunity to be involved in a dynamic, fast growing and award winning horticultural therapy and healthy community building organization.

The Julien Project is a registered Canadian charity based in Guelph, Ontario. It seeks to enrich communities and lives through therapeutic gardening.

Location: Programs are held at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph in the therapeutic courtyard garden, field garden, perennial garden, indoor workshop space, community kitchens, local schools and University of Guelph greenhouse.

Programs: A variety of direct delivery workshops are conducted in these program settings. Participants of all ages and abilities engage in gardening and related activities for health, therapy and skill development.

The intern would be supervised and mentored daily on site by a team of highly skilled and qualified staff working full time over the summer and fall months at The Julien Project. This team would include a Program Manager who is a Registered Horticultural Therapist, a program instructor and a Registered Horticultural Therapist and founder of the Julien Project

The ideal candidate will have the following education/ experience:

  • Member of the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association (C.H.T.A.) for at minimum 6 months prior to application.
  • Has volunteered with The Julien Project team for 6-10 hours
  • Previous relevant experience and education i.e. degree, diploma or certification in related subjects, including but not limited to horticulture/ecology/ environmental preservation, urban agriculture, humanities social sciences, working with special needs populations
  • Previous horticultural therapy extended educational courses with ability to demonstrate a program plan and or previous C.H.T.A. accredited workshop sessions with proof of certificate of completion
  • Completion of Safe Food handling Course
  • First Aid Certification
  • Vulnerable Sector Police check
  • Serious desire to become a Registered Horticultural Therapist as a career
  • Commitment to mission / vision of the Julien Project
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and be a self- initiating learner
