Position: Mentor/Co-Teacher
Organization: Wild Path Forest School
Location: Neustadt, Ontario

Wild Path Forest School is a new forest school program located on a beautiful 100-acre organic farm near Neustadt, ON. We are seeking a mentor/co-teacher for our summer camp program, and there is also the possibility of continuing as a co-teacher in our school year programs beginning in the fall. We are looking for a mentor who is enthusiastic, creative, and self-motivated and who is willing to commit to ongoing learning.

We are dedicated to fostering deep connection between children and the natural world through play and exploration in forests, fields, and gardens. It is our mission to help children develop confidence, resilience and a sense of wonder, ultimately empowering children to become stewards of the natural environment.

Your role:

  • plan and facilitate dynamic programming for students aged 4-13
  • support children in their exploration and extend their learning by providing resources and encouraging inquiry
  • model care and respect for the natural world
  • ensure the safety of children while engaged in forest play, in proximity to standing water, streams, and farm equipment
  • communicate regularly with parents in person, by phone, or by e-mail regarding the program
  • complete paperwork and administrative support
  • attend educator meetings and forest school related events

The ideal candidate will:

  • have knowledge of some of the following: forest ecology, survival skills, campfire cooking, wildlife tracking, edible and medicinal plants, navigation, bird language
  • be willing to learn and improve upon outdoor skills
  • have knowledge of or interest in indigenous history and plant/animal knowledge
  • be comfortable working outside with enthusiasm in all weather conditions
  • musical skills are a plus!

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ontario Certified Teacher, ECE, background in education or environmental science
  • 2 years of experience in nature-based mentoring with children
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C required by date of hire
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required by date of hire

Start date: July 6, 2020. Summer hours are 36 hours/week for six weeks.

If applying to continue in the fall, this position will offer a range of 7-14 hours per week from September-June (hours based on availability).

Compensation: Starting wage is $18.00/hour.
