Position: Forest Campaigner, Canada
Organization: Stand

Stand is hiring a Forest Campaigner to play a key role in advancing forest protection efforts in Canada. This position is central to planned efforts to support improved forest conservation policies and new protected areas and will expand our ability to hold some of the world’s biggest corporations accountable for their environmental impacts.

The Forest Campaigner will be responsible for advancing our Canadian forest strategy which involves working in coalition on place-based conservation efforts, improved forest policies, supporting indigenous conservation leadership initiatives, and supporting markets campaign work related to reducing the impacts that the pulp and paper, solid wood, and biomass industries are having on Canadian forests. Our forest campaign also works with stakeholders in Canada to achieve large-scale forest protection agreements. This is a full-time salaried position with excellent benefits - the salary range is $65,657 - $91,9200 CAD ($50,000 - $70,000 USD) commensurate with experience. Location: This position will be based in British Columbia (Vancouver or Nelson BC preferred and is open to other locations in Canada).

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Forest Programs Director and other team members to develop and execute strategies for expanded forest protection in key provinces (ex: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec) and nationally
  • Work in collaboration with regional and national organizations in Canada to support place-based conservation efforts in BC and other provinces.
  • Work in collaboration to support First Nations conservation leadership, caribou recovery plans and protected area proposals and/or First Nations’ natural resource extraction bans
  • Support the forest program team’s execution of market-based campaign strategies (focused on tissue and other sectors) that reduce pressure on the Boreal Forest and the primary forests in BC and integrating online and offline tactics to achieve campaign goals.
  • Work with senior staff to support engagement efforts with corporations connected to forest sourcing concerns.
  • Support industry and issue-focused research to be used for crafting campaign strategy.
  • Recruit and engage supporters online and offline.
  • Build relationships and coordinate activities with partner organizations and allies.
  • Work with the team to craft compelling external content and publicly communicate the campaign’s positions to the media.
  • Work with development department on foundation proposals and identifying key fundraising moments during the course of the campaign.


  • 3-5 years of campaign experience. Direct experience with indigenous conservation initiatives and/or large-scale forest conservation efforts preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canadian forestry issues a must.
  • Strong writing skills – ability to draft compelling messaging for on/off line communications.
  • Social media engagement – understands the role social media plays in successful campaigning.
  • Desire to learn new digital skills and tactics that will engage supporters to achieve campaign goals.
  • Demonstrated success working within and leading organizing efforts in coalition, managing people, identifying organizational needs, and problem solving.
  • Highly organized, flexible, creative, able to prioritize multiple tasks, and able to thrive in a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
  • Independent and motivated.
