Position: Farm Apprentice
Type: training position with on-farm accom., stipend, more
Organization: Abbondanza Farm
Location: Eastern Townships, near Magog, Quebec

Abbondanza Farm is a small but very diverse farm located in the beautiful Eastern Townships of Quebec, on the border with Vermont and an hour and a half from Montreal.

We are committed to the preservation of our agricultural heritage and to sustainable farming.

We sell our produce at our local farmers market and this year will be expanding into a second market and CSA baskets.

We produce a wide variety of vegetables and small fruit in our fields and greenhouses as well as raising poultry, turkeys and sheep.

The farm is also an educational centre offering a series of workshops each season in growing food and living sustainably.

As well as paid workers we welcome volunteers from all over the world during the season.

We speak both English and French.

We work hard but we also love to have fun and eat good food.

This internship is a training position, 45-50 hours a week, generally Monday to Friday but also including some Saturday mornings, from May 1 to October 15.

We would also be open to someone applying for a 3 month period.

You will have the opportunity to experience and learn about all aspects of vegetable production, harvesting, preparation and selling at markets as the growing season evolves.

You will be working beside experienced farmers who are committed to training.

We meet every morning to plan our day and assign tasks.

The job includes accommodation on the farm, 3 meals a day and a minimum stipend of $150 a week that could be adjusted based on your experience.

You will have one week paid vacation during the season. Other time away could be negotiated.

There will be a 2 weeks trial period, so each of us can determine if we can work well together

  • Has a serious interest in farming.
  • Is open to learning.
  • Has the physical ability to carry out farm tasks.

  • Feels comfortable living and working with others.
  • We are very open to people of colour and/or people who identify as queer.
  • Can commit to a minimum of 3 months or the full season.
  • Likes to laugh.

Please send me an email that will tell me:

  • How this agricultural internship would fit in with your future plans.
  • Why do you imagine this farm would meet your needs.
  • The previous agriculture experiences you have had.
  • Any physical limitations you may have.
  • Any dietary restrictions or preferences you have.
