EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Position: Executive Director
Organization: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS-BC)
Location: Vancouver, BC

Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, British Columbia (CPAWS-BC) is located on the unceded territory of the Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish, and Musqueam Nations, and works on the lands and waters of the 198 First Nations that make up what is now British Columbia.

CPAWS-BC is a non-profit, grassroots-based organization that is exclusively dedicated to protecting public lands, freshwater, and ocean. CPAWS-BC works to safeguard large parks, protected areas and wildlife corridors – places like Tatshenshini, Muskwa Kechika, South Okanagan-Similkameen, Gwaii Haanas, and the Scott Islands.

CPAWS-BC is committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within every aspect of its work. As a conservation organization, CPAWS-BC has a responsibility to decolonize its work and to ensure that it is supporting Indigenous Peoples to identify, create, and manage protected areas and ecosystems.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and management of a progressive and evolving conservation non-profit. The Executive Director has oversight of operations including staff leadership, financial sustainability, as well as the coordination of the day-to-day operations, fund development, programming, and services in alignment with the organizational strategic priorities. The Executive Director builds and maintains strong relationships with Indigenous partners, Board, staff, funders, donors, the CPAWS national office and fellow CPAWS chapters, government agencies and the broader community with a commitment to achieve outcomes that are inclusive, and mission-driven.

This is a challenging and dynamic opportunity for an innovative non-profit leader who is committed to driving and shaping the conservation movement. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational abilities with excellent interpersonal, financial, governance and strategic planning skills. The candidate will have education, training, and/or professional development (including, but not limited to, conservation, sustainability, environmental sciences, and non-profit leadership) with over five years of progressive and leadership experience. The annual salary for the position is $95,000 plus generous health and dental benefits, RRSP matching program and scheduled annual cost of living increases.
