Program: Newcomer Youth Green Economy Project

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is now accepting applications for the

Newcomer Youth Green Economy Project (NYGEP)

The NYGEP helps newcomer post-secondary students in the GTA explore career pathways in the green economy. Students will have access to learning opportunities in ecological restoration, water management, green energy/green building, and environmental education.

What do NYGEP participants receive?

  • Job search and corporate culture and communication training
  • Online technical training in low impact development and environmental legislation
  • Field trip to TRCA Kortright Centre for Conservation
  • Experiential learning placement with a host employer in the environmental sector
  • $500 stipend to offset costs related to participation (upon successful program completion)

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • be 18-29 years of age and currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university program in the GTA
  • have a major focus of study in the environmental sector (e.g. environmental science, studies, engineering, education)
  • have immigrated to Canada within the last 10 years (International students are not eligible)

Program Dates

We are currently recruiting for 2 different program sessions:

  • Fall 2018: September 8 – November 30, 2018
  • Winter 2019: January 5 – March 9, 2019

Students must register for and attend a webinar or in-person program information session to be eligible to apply for the program.
