Position: Product Manager — Waste Optimization
Organization: Earth Day
Location: Ottawa ON or Gatineau QC

Earth Day Canada | Tous les Jours is a charitable organization that organizes the Canadian component of Earth Day as well as a range of environmental programs year-round.

Originally founded in 1995 to organize the annual celebrations in Quebec, Tous les Jours expanded its operations to France and the French-speaking world in 2015 and, since the summer of 2019, across Canada. In addition to the annual celebration of April 22nd, Earth Day Canada’s mission is to support individuals, organizations, and businesses in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact.

Earth Day is currently looking for a highly motivated person to fill the position of a Project Manager - Waste Optimization, in order to facilitate the implementation of a pilot project in Ontario for one of our main partners.

Main responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Programs Director, the person will be responsible for:

  • Promoting the program to merchants
  • Organizing visits to grocery stores in order to:
    • Evaluate the recycling system in place in each of the stores visited
    • Train store employees in waste management practices
    • Carry out the waste characterization
  • Writing visit reports and recommendations
  • Suggesting improvements in waste collection practices in order to meet diversion objectives
  • Helping set up new waste management processes
  • Providing post-visit support to each store
  • Granting Action/Reduction certification
  • Performing data entry in the monitoring software
  • Carrying out studies from outside sources on various recycling channels in Ontario as well as suppliers providing collection services.
  • Providing support to the development team by building new partnerships


  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies or equivalent
  • Experience in waste management
  • Experience in customer service
  • Functional level of French (Our team is mainly francophone and there will be Gatineau clients)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of the Mac environment

Working conditions

  • Salary : in accordance with our pay scale
  • Location : based in Ottawa or Gatineau, some travel to Montreal expected, around once a month
  • Schedule: 35 hrs/week
  • Start date: October
