Position: Environmental Education Program Officer

The BC Sustainable Energy Association is looking to fill one contractor position as Environmental Education Program Officer with the Cool It! Climate Leadership Training program in Vancouver and surrounding areas, BC.

The role is to support BCSEA to develop the Cool It! Climate Leadership program including a digital web platform development and development of a high school program curriculum. The role will involve youth climate education program development and depending on the candidate may involve pilot workshop coordination and facilitating fun and engaging climate action workshops in high schools in the greater Vancouver region. The role involves working with the Cool It! Program Manager, teachers and high school students, and our sponsors to contribute to developing an engaging, fun and informative climate change education program.

We are looking for someone who is proactive with initiative, dedicated to taking action against climate change, who is tech savvy and can support us to digitise our curriculum, and who has a sound knowledge of youth activation, Environmental or Sustainability-related Education models and can contribute ideas, development and coordination support to our program.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Program development/coordination experience: Experience managing, supporting, or developing non-profit or education programs
  • Education or youth program experience: Experience working on environmental, climate change, or sustainability education programs, or on initiatives with youth
  • Flexibility: Availability to work varied, flexible hours and work independently
  • Ability to perform administrative duties and tech savvy with websites and able to use Google Drive
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers; Ability to work well both independently and effectively in a collaborative team environment to achieve collective results
  • Desirable: Facilitation experience in the field of school, visitor, camp or park education programs on environmental, natural history, outdoor or science programming; Ability to communicate effectively in large and small groups of children and adults; possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of professionalism, initiative, proactivity and follow through
  • Working knowledge of Climate Science, Environmental Impact, and Behaviour Change. Prefer qualifications in Education, Sustainability related fields
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
  • Access to computer and high-speed internet, latest version of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with the Google Suite; capacity to respond to phone calls and emails within 24 hours.

The contract will allow for between 10 and 20 hours per week for program development from May - August, and with possible facilitation opportunities in the Fall school term. The remuneration is $25 per hour.
