Position: Environmental Education Youth Coordinator
Term: full time contract, June 2019 to March 2020

Ecosource is seeking a creative, self-motivated and collaborative individual to co-coordinate environmental youth programming. The candidate may select preference for being based in Peel Region or on Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation territory near Brantford, Ontario. The successful candidate will develop and deliver an engaging, hands-on program bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth together to design and lead service-oriented environmental stewardship projects, while offering participating youth an opportunity to develop leadership skills and approach reconciliation through Indigenous history, cultural practices and teachings.


  • Develop and deliver a peer stewardship program engaging Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth in environmental leadership;
  • Ensure the program reflects social justice principles and supports reconciliation;
  • Regularly consult and collaborate with project partners;
  • Lead program outreach and recruitment;
  • Support youth in selecting and completing volunteer service hours for stewardship projects;
  • Coordinate a youth steering committee for the duration of the project and ensure youth perspectives and priorities are integrated into program planning;
  • Coordinate regular workshops on sustainability issues in partnership with youth participants;
  • Coordinate regular email, written and telephone communication with program participants and volunteers;
  • Document relevant project information, milestones and evaluation data; Act as a representative of Ecosource to the community and assists with other Ecosource activities as required.


  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience with project coordination in culturally diverse communities;
  • Significant knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions as well as contemporary Indigenous issues;
  • Experience delivering environmental education and/or stewardship projects;
  • Experience coordinating, supervising and supporting diverse volunteers;
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and anti-oppression principles;
  • Skilled in youth education and group facilitation;
  • Sound program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation skills;
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and computer skills;
  • Ability to work independently, in a team, and within various settings;
  • Familiarity with the Region of Peel and/or Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation is an asset;
  • Applicants are required to hold a current driver's license and must have access to a vehicle.

Application Information:

This is a full time (35 hours per week) contract position from June 2019 to March 2020 with an annual salary in the mid-$40,000s, dependent on experience. Evening and weekend work will be required. A Police Record Search will be required upon hiring.
