Position: Waste Reduction Educator

Ecosource is seeking a Waste Reduction Educator

Full time, 35 hours per week (6-month contract)

Who We Are: Ecosource is an innovative environmental organization that empowers the community to become more environmentally responsible through creative public education. We specialize in hands-on programming that aims to increase environmental sustainability in Peel Region and beyond.

The Position: Ecosource is seeking a passionate, self-motivated educator to join our Waste Reduction Education team. This position will include the preparation, maintenance, and delivery of the Region of Peel’s Virtual Waste Workshops to Peel schools. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver virtual waste education workshops with set and specific key messages on waste reduction
• Document relevant project information, specifically data from program delivery, milestones and evaluation data
• Support the development and modification of program materials
• Support the evaluation of Ecosource’s programs with a focus on Ontario curriculum expectations
• Assist with other Ecosource programming and activities as required
• Represent the core values of Ecosource in the community

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in environmental sciences/studies, education in related field and/or equivalent work/lived experience or community involvement
• Experience teaching and/or working with students ranging from age 5 to 14
• Experience delivering education programs in school settings is considered an asset
• Knowledge of environmental issues including waste reduction
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and computer skills including all MS Office applications, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Excel
• Sound program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation skills
• Energetic, flexible, and self-motivated
• Ability to work independently, in a team, and within various settings
• Familiarity with the Region of Peel is considered an asset, as is OCT membership, experience working with and/or teaching in diverse communities (including with special needs and ESL learners) and the non-profit sector
• Excellent attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
• Occasional access to a vehicle for travel to the office or other sites within the community is considered an asset

Application Information:

This is a 6-month contract position with possibility for extension starting in early February 2021 at 35 hours/week. Salary for this position is in the low $40,000s per year, prorated to the length of the contract and commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included after the probationary period. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required. A Police Record Check will be required upon hiring.
