CONSERVATION PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Position: Director, Conservation Programs
Organization: Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative
Location: Canmore AB (200-1350 Railway Ave)

The Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y) is a joint Canada-US not-for-profit organization with a mission to connect and protect wildlife habitat from Yellowstone to Yukon so both people and nature can thrive.

Yellowstone to Yukon takes a scientific and collaborative approach to conservation, and highlights and focuses on local issues that affect the region. Y2Y has partnered with over 300 scientists, conservation groups, landowners, government agencies, Indigenous governments and communities and businesses to stitch together this landscape.

Without a unified vision for this deeply interconnected landscape, local conservation efforts may be isolated and less effective. Y2Y seeks to ensure conservation efforts are aligned in support of large-scale objectives, and therefore become continentally significant. Today, Y2Y is recognized as one of the planet’s leading mountain conservation initiatives.

Reporting to the President, the Director, Conservation Programs will have primary oversight of Y2Y programs and associated administration. Working with the senior program staff, the Director of Conservation Programs will have responsibility for the oversight of the planning, implementation and management of projects that advance the Y2Y vision and deliver on the current strategic plan. This is a full-time position that will support programs through engagement at high levels of Government including Federal, Provincial and Indigenous governments. The Director, Conservation Programs will travel throughout the Y2Y region as required and work to promote the Y2Y vision and programs to relevant audiences in communities, conferences, government agencies, partners and the media. The Director, Conservation Programs will engage in Board meetings, representing programs, and act as a liaison between program staff and senior management.

The ideal candidate will identify strongly with the Y2Y mission, possess a minimum of 15 years of successful experience managing staff, and knowledge of conservation and land management. In addition, this individual will have experience leading conservation campaigns affecting policy change, and will be well versed in engaging with government agencies and elected officials at various levels of government. This individual is a confident relationship builder with experience in individual and foundation fundraising, and their ability to manage complex budgets with multiple funders is second to none.
