Position: Climate Officer

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Sustainability Manager, the Climate Officer will be closely involved in implementing the McGill University Climate & Sustainability Strategy, especially focusing on the climate-related initiatives. This will involve participating in the development of policies and programs tailored for students, faculty and staff to reduce McGill’s carbon footprint. The Climate Officer will be responsible for helping McGill reach carbon neutrality, enhancing climate literacy, and improving climate resilience. Finally, the Climate Officer will be supporting other climate related initiatives that are considered a priority by the University administration or emerging from a university plan, policy or program.
Primary Responsibilities:
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of the higher education sector an asset. Graduate degree is an asset. Understanding of McGill’s greenhouse gas inventory, greenhouse gas coefficients, and knowledge of greenhouse gas reduction targets. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Demonstrated aptitude for systems thinking, with acute strategic and analytical skills. Superior interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proven talent for problem-solving. Demonstrated organization skills, with the ability to set priorities and multi-task. Capacity to navigate in a large and decentralized institution. Experience in developing and implementing climate / sustainability related programs. English & French, spoken & written. Previous applicants are welcome to apply.

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 05) $63,140.00 - $94,700.00
