Textbooks for Change (T4C) is a social enterprise and certified B Corp that provides affordable and accessible educational material to students both locally and abroad. We redistribute used textbooks to create social impact and improve the educational landscape for students around the world. We do this by:

  • Donating 50% of the textbooks collected to partner university libraries in East Africa and have sent nearly 300,000 to date.

  • Selling affordable used textbooks to North American students and using proceeds to help fund student-led impact initiatives.

  • Diverting thousands of textbooks from landfills by recycling them efficiently.

The Role & Responsibilities

We are a small company, but we need to get a little bit bigger. We are looking to add a person to help lead the day to day operations of our fulfillment centre team (3-4 people) while also contributing to the day to day operations. Some responsibilities will include:

Management Roles (30 -40% of your time). You will:

  • Run weekly team meetings and monthly individual meetings with all team members to keep motivation and moral high. You will also coach employees to improve and be required to deal with performance issues if they arise.

  • Learn and understand team dynamics and personalities to keep the team running efficiently.

  • Have a deep understanding of required efficiencies and job tasks to ensure we are sustainably meeting targets.

  • Complete timesheets and track sick days, vacation requests and weekly working schedules.

  • Oversee our Amazon store account health to ensure the required metrics are being met.

  • Effectively handle any other tasks or issues that may arise on day-to-day.

  • Continuously keep our Operations Director and shareholders updated on the team, efficiency targets, and all other important metrics.

Everyday Roles (60-70% of your time). You will:

  • Process, pack and ship textbooks to students across North America.

  • Scan and sort some of the ~150,000 textbooks collected annually.

  • Help to handle customer service requests through our numerous online stores.

  • Troubleshoot any technical issues that arise with any and all of the hardware and software used in our operations.

  • Complete other jobs that may arise including but not limited to handling East Africa shipments to our partner schools, completing a textbook pickup, etc.

You have:

  • A degree or certificate from a recognized college or university.

  • 3+ years leading small teams to both feel motivated and fulfilled with their tasks while maintaining efficiency targets.

  • A deep understanding of human resources practices and procedures in Ontario.

  • Online sales experience with companies like Amazon, eBay, Shopify etc.

  • The ability to analyze data and craft informed decisions.

  • Knowledge of social enterprise, and an understanding of the three p’s (people, planet, profit).

  • Technically savvy: You are competent with computers, with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications experience but will start at $35,000 for the 3-month probationary period while you are learning the day-to-day tasks of the job.

  • We provide three weeks of vacation to all of our staff members and believe it is very important to rest and recharge.

This role will begin in mid/late May 2019. During the summer months, you will be trained to understand how T4C operations work and then will gradually be transitioned to the management responsibilities in the fall.
