Position: Finance Clerk
Organization: Ecology Action Centre
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

(part time, 10 - 12 hrs/week)

POSITION

The Finance Clerk assists in maintaining the daily and monthly accounting and financial activities for the Ecology Action Centre, including month end postings, bank reconciliations and financial tracking for both Operations and Projects. The position reports to the Finance Manager.

Duties include:

  • Assist with month-end activities; all bank statement postings and bank account reconciliation
  • Enter bi-weekly payroll posting into accounting software
  • Provide support for fiscal year-end and annual audit
  • Update tracking of Operations revenues and expenses monthly
  • Update monthly tracking of projects
  • Physical filing of finance documents
  • Additional activities as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills and experience:

  • 1-2 years experience in a financial capacity. Some post-secondary education.
  • Experience using accounting software. Knowledge of Sage 50 an asset.
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • High level of trust and integrity
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational skills.
  • Initiative, self-motivation and the ability to work well independently
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Strong written and oral communications
  • Positive problem-solving attitude
  • Commitment to social and environmental justice

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience in a non-profit environment
  • Accounting/Bookkeeping courses (community college or university)
  • Comfortablne working in contact management databases

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Start: August 2019 for an indefinite term
  • 10-12 hours per week @ $18.00 - 20.00/hour, based on experience
  • Workdays: 2 days per week, Monday to Friday, specific days to be decided
  • Location: This position will be based at our Halifax office.
