Position: French-language Program Assistant
Type: summer job / summer student position
Reports to: French-language Program Manager

Start date: Monday, July 9, 2018
End date: Thursday, August 30

Duration: 4 days (30 hours) per week for 8 weeks (240 hours total)
Wage: $17/hour

Position Summary

Reporting to the French-language Program Manager, The French-language Program Assistant will support the development of the EcoSchools certification program for the Ontario Francophone and (if applicable) the Indigenous communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft communications and educational resources for the Francophone and Indigenous communities

  • Conduct research on community needs

  • Support data collection and program evaluation

  • Support the development of our digital platform and database

  • Research and write stories about French-language schools for newsletters

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of related experience and/or enrollment in post-secondary training or education, preferably in Environmental Studies, Education, or Translation

  • Interest in environmental issues and/or environmental education

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and flexibility to function collaboratively as part of a small team

  • Proficiency in Google Suite programs and Microsoft Office

  • Fluency in French with strong oral and written skills

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities considered a strong asset

Eligibility

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. In order to be eligible, the candidate must be:

  1. between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

  2. registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;

  3. intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

  4. a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;

  5. a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;

  6. legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
