Position: Bike to Work Week Manager

HUB Cycling seeks a Bike to Work Week Manager to lead our bi-annual Bike to Work Week events and program. The Bike to Work Week Manager is responsible for overseeing event planning and logistics for the spring (May) and fall (Sept/Oct) Bike to Work Weeks, as well as related events such as the Bike to Work Week media launch and supporting other HUB events such as the Bike Awards.

In 2020, in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Bike to Work Week pivoted to a digital first event in May 2020 called ‘Go by Bike Week’. In September 2020 the celebrations took a ‘hybrid’ model of digital and in-person events including celebration stations (re-named Knowledge HUBs), and digital events such as webinars, videos and livestreams. The successful candidate is expected to remain flexible as the best laid plans may change during the global pandemic.

The Bike to Work Week Manager will report to The Director of Engagement. The Bike to Work Week Manager will supervise the Bike to Work Week Coordinator.


  • Initiate, maintain and steward corporate and community sponsorships and partnerships
  • Increase program offerings and sponsorships
  • Increase event participation rates and engagement with new audiences
  • Lead on event logistics and scheduling for the bi-annual in-person/digital events
  • Recruit, train and supervise a part-time Bike to Work Week Coordinator and seasonal celebration station coordinators
  • Oversee the design of engaging marketing and communications materials in conjunction with HUB Cycling’s Marketing Manager
  • Manage and update content for the program website and lead on the management of the Bike to Work Week tracking tool
  • Oversee the program budget and ensure that the event is running within budget
  • Ensure consistent event safety and risk mitigation measures are undertaken
  • Continue to adapt and develop the program to align with COVID-19 procedures in 2021 and beyond as needed
  • Raise awareness of cycling as a viable commuter mode of transportation
  • Liaise with other HUB Cycling staff as appropriate
  • Assist with other programs and events, as needed
  • Provide event reporting to external partners
  • Engage in media interviews

You are:

  • A strategic and driven program or event manager who loves making the ask
  • Highly organized and a master of details, deadlines and deliverables
  • Comfortable with planning community events during an uncertain period and able to quickly pivot if needed, and communicate associated changes to the team and sponsors
  • An engaging leader who is able to recruit, inspire and effectively manage teams of both seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Skilled at delegating and prioritizing
  • Friendly, professional, creative and able to multitask
  • Familiar with Metro Vancouver’s geography, municipalities and business sectors
  • Passionate about the role that bicycles can play in building happier, healthier and more connected communities

Qualifications, knowledge and skills:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Sponsorship solicitation and/or related sales experience
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders including partners, local municipalities, staff and volunteers
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Competency with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite or similar productivity suites
  • Event planning and managerial experience
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, newsletter and website content management
  • Confident managing data, maintaining basic statistics and producing engaging reports
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and are eligible to drive Modo car share vehicles
  • Flexibility, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm are key to success in this position

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in developing and stewarding strong relationships with sponsors, business and community partners
  • Experience in planning and executing all details of large-scale community events
  • Experience planning events during COVID-19 and remaining flexible during a period of uncertainty

Position details:

This is a full-time position (35 hours/week) starting early January 2021 with compensation of $41-47k per year depending on experience.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends in the lead up to the events; any time accrued can be taken back as time off in lieu. The successful candidate will also need access to their own cell phone and a reliable home internet connection.

All staff are expected to temporarily work remotely due to COVID-19. Staff must be reasonably available for future in-person meetings and events in Metro Vancouver that follow public health authority guidelines.
