Position: Sous Chef

We are currently hiring for the upcoming 2020 season!

Celebrating our 103rd anniversary, Bartlett Lodge is Algonquin Park's smallest and most historic lodge. We have 12 cabins, 2 suites, and 2 platform tents which house our guests from around the world from mid May until the end of October. We are hiring for 1 (one) Sous Chef vacancy in our kitchen. This position is a full-time contract position LOCATED IN ALGONQUIN PARK (3 hours from Ottawa or Toronto) with an anticipated start date of May 10th, 2020 until the end of our season on October 27th, 2020. You must be available to work the entire season to be considered for this position. You may be required to work holidays, weekends, split shifts, and on occasion 6-day weeks.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Chef, duties include:

  • Review and plan daily with the Executive Chef and prepare the necessary food items in accordance with standards in a timely and efficient fashion
  • Consult and create daily and weekly menus with Executive Chef
  • Working all stations including entremetier, saucier, grill, and garde manger, and breakfast service
  • Maintain consistency and ensure all standards are met
  • Keeps workstation clean and organized including fridge's/freezers, countertops and stove tops
  • Ensures that station opening and closing procedures are carried out to standard
  • Keeps overproduction and food waste to a minimum, ensures proper rotation, labeling, and storing of food in order to reduce food cost expense and in accordance with food safety guidelines
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment and conduct themselves with safety in mind at all times
  • Assumes responsibility for the operations of his/her station
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the hotel health and safety program.
  • Provide professional and friendly service to all resort guests


  • Minimum 3-4 years cooking experience in either a hotel, lodge, or fine dining atmosphere
  • Minimum of 2-3 years management experience 
  • Creative menu design including extensive knowledge of seasonal produce
  • Knowledgeable in butchery of meat and fish
  • Ability to plan and execute last minute dietary requests including vegan, gluten free, dairy free, etc.
  • Food Handler Certificate required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Firm understanding of ordering, scheduling, labour control, and health & safety standards

We provide staff accommodations and two meals per day. Employees are welcome to the use of our amenities including canoes, kayaks, and bikes. Employees are also able to enjoy unlimited access to the park at no cost during their days off. Pay is in addition to our generous tip pool.
