Green Neighbours Network of Toronto (GNN) is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to prepare and disseminate GNN’s monthly newsletter.

About Green Neighbours Network

Launched in April 2018, GNN is a network of independent community groups and individuals working together with a common goal: to help make Toronto a city of greener, more vibrant neighbourhoods and a leader in the worldwide urban movement against climate change. GNN aims to facilitate collaboration among members and mentorship of new green groups. We strive to help our members develop skills for effective civic engagement and to build a rich web of alliances with other groups in the areas of health, environment, transit, housing and social justice. Volunteer Position:
GNN Newsletter Editor

Purpose: To collate and edit content submissions from GNN’s member groups and prepare and disseminate GNN’s monthly newsletter. 

Responsibilities:

The position of GNN Newsletter Editor will involve a time commitment, on average, of 4-8 hours per week and will entail the following tasks:

1. Integrate the submissions of team members and others into a cogent and positive monthly report on GNN, the activities of its member-groups and selected green events from across the city.
2. Respond to all newsletter inquiries and submissions in a timely manner.
3. Maintain ongoing engagement with GNN Communication Team volunteers and coordinatewith their activities as needed.
4. Provide guidance, support and training for GNN members in how to prepare a Newsletter in Mailchimp as required.
5. Participate in the development of editorial policies and strategic directions for newsletter communications in collaboration with the GNN Steering Committee.

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics:

1. Familiarity with MailChimp or other newsletter platform, and willingness to learn.
2. Familiarity with image management and editing software — desirable but not required.
3. Working experience with MS Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Google Docs.
4. Excellent written communications skills in English. Other languages are an added asset.
5. Relationship-building: Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of GNN.
6. Commitment to fostering teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions.
7. Organizational skills: Setting priorities, developing a work schedule, monitoring progress toward goals.
8. Commitment to promoting ethnic, geographical, age, ability and other diversity in GNN membership and the communities receiving support from GNN.

Time Commitment: 

On average, of 4-8 hours per week for 6-month with possibility of extension.

Orientation:

The GNN Newsletter Editor will follow an onboarding process and will be supported by the GNN Steering Committee members throughout the entire duration of their volunteer work.

GNN Steering Committee

GNN is governed by a Steering Committee with responsibility for strategic direction, as well as overseeing outreach and mentoring, communications, volunteer recruitment, projects, partnerships, and finances. Steering Committee members are all unpaid volunteers. Guiding a new and emerging network, Steering Committee members are actively engaged in planning and development of exciting new strategies and projects.
